and taking a stroll in the park. >> a mountain lion and its cub spotted roaming a redwood city park. authorities are taking no chances with public safety. good evening. i'm dan ashley. carolyn johnson is off. the mountain lion will do anything to feed or protect its cub. and that's why people in that area are being warned. they were spotted in redwood city this afternoon. the park backs up to farm hill boulevard. leslie brinkly is there live tonight with the story. leslie? >> reporter: that's right. officers went door-to-door warning residents of the mountain lion sighting. and of course the signs are everywhere warning people to use extreme cautioning. in the -- caution. in the middle of the afternoon police got a call from a resident whose house backs up to this park. >> reported the sighting of an adult mountain lion with a cub seen in the park. it was deemed to be a credible

threat, so we have taken steps to notify residents and park users. >> reporter: police found no tracks or physical evidence in this park land -- park land filled with canyon hiking trails and adjacent to homes. a perfect collision of open space and suburbs. in marsh of last year -- march of last year a female mountain lion was shot and killed by fish and game officers who said the big cat was jumping house to house. punishes cooperate get a -- officials couldn't get a clear shot and the mountain lion, they said, was hissing at people. but this is an area mountain lions are often spot i -- spotted, so why the warning? >> dusk is the prime time mountain lions come out, and there are lots of summer camps and lots of kids that are using the park this time of year. >> thus you issued the alert? >> correct. >> i am going down the slide now. >> reporter: there were plenty of families in the park on wednesday evening. >> i feel fairly confident

cans commission. he is desperately trying to keep his job after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor domestic violence charge. dan noyes spoke with him today, and here is his report with exclusive new details on the case. >> he tells me he is ready for his testimony before the ethics commission. he faces charges of official misconduct after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor violence count. he admitted to grabbing his wife's arm and causing a bruise. >> i have been living this every way. in a way i am battle trained, if you will. i am very much looking forward to this because i haven't had an opportunity in this kind of forum and in this medium and taking the stage where i am able to explain from the beginning and to where they want me to go. >> and now his defense team is stepping up criticism next door neighbor audrey madison who reported it to police against the wishes of his

wife. >> this something that was concocted by madison. >> reporter: she is an author and she has a graphic novel. >> she writes on the back the line between justice and vengeance is a thin one. one has to begin to wonder, what is really happening here? is this case based on fact, or is it based on fiction? >> reporter: the i team has obtained dotens of e-mails wrifn by madison. she produced them in response to a subpoena in the criminal case. they are heavily redacted, but we can piece together new details from what is not blacked out. the day after the argument on new year's eve, madison convinced lopez to document the bruise on video. >> this is the second time this is happening. >> reporter: madison writes to an unidentified friend, she let me take a video of her crying and showing the bruise. in an e-mail she wrote the same day they shot the video,

eliana lopez never mentions going to police. in fact, she tells madison, please send me the info from your therapist. looks like ross is doing research too. in the days to follow madison sent out long missives, apparently embellishing what happened. lopez told me the bruise happened when the sheriff grabbed her arm in the family van and the argument stopped there. but madison writes, "pros was being violent enough with her that she wound up running out of the house and saying to him in the street, do you want me to call the police" in front of numerous passersby. >> all of these stories about grabbing and all of that thing that i was running outside, that is not true. that never happened. >> where did that come from? >> i don't know. it is imagination of someone. >> madison's husband provided his phone to police so they could see his text messages

dan noyes, abc7 news. >> needless to say we will bring you full coverage of the ethics hearing tomorrow on abc7 news. well, it is official, less than two hours ago governor brown signed a new state budget after a flurry of cuts and compromises to close the billion dollar budget gap. the state lawmakers handed over the budget to the governor who signed it before the midnight deadline. it includes welfare and social service cuts and it assumes that voters will approve the governor as tax hike on the november ballot. in the east bay police are looking for a dangerous man. he exposed himself to a teenage girl and apparently intended to do more than that. it happened on a stretch of iron horse trail near downtown walnut creek. ama dates is there live to explain what happened. ama, how did this young woman get away? >> she ran away. she called her mom. her mom called police.

they now have this sketch to help track down the man who flashed a 14-year-old girl on june 18th. it happened here along the iron horse trail that was frequented by bicyclist, walkers and joggers. the girl was walking along the trail when he started talking to her. >> he approached her and offered her cigarettes and drugs. she got scared and he followed her to her apartment. >> that's when he exposed himself. she ran inside to get away. the girl was able to get a description of what he looked like. >> he was described as wearing an orange safety vest with a dark shirt underneath and black pants. he is a hispanic male about 40, heavy set, 200 plus pounds spoke with a spanish accent. >> not someone that escobar recognizes. she walks the trail daily and generally safe, but this has her spooked. >> especially because i have an 11-year-old niece who walks

to school back here. >> the trail runs along walnut creek intermediate school. she remembers construction work near the trail last week, something police explored because of the machine's orange construction-type vest. >> we have visited a couple of construction sites and showed the photo around to see if anybody recognized them. and to this point, nobody has recognized them. >> but they will keep looking. >> i can see a police location on the trail. >> he lives across the street. >> sometimes you see shadowy characters cruising around on bikes what have you, but not too often. >> and really it is great that girl was able to give such a good description. she looked at the sketch afterwards and says that's what he looked like. at least they have that do go on. they even know what kind of cigarettes he was smoking, l and m cigarettes. ama dates, abc news. >> let's hope they find him. a boater was pulled to safety after a sailboat

the nexus7 operates on the new jelly bean an droid operating system. it will ship out in july. and google sliped in a little surprise announcing google earth has been updated with the 3d map technology. the imagery can pick up eye tesms as small as trees. so far it is only available for android users. the colorado wildfire is dangerously close to the academy. it is in advance of fast-moving flames fanned by thunderstorm-spawned winds. the army bulldozer crews are helping several thousand firefighters on the lines. a is many as 300 homes may already have been lost. high heat, high winds have hampered the fire fighting efforts since this fire broke out on saturday. and here at home in napa county it took firefighters about two hours to contain a three acre brushfire near

calistoga. it broke out around tw:00 when a tree fell on to some power lines . folks nearby were evacuated as a precaution. about 65 firefighters from calistoga and cal fiery spawnedded. cal fire rei spawnedded. d.a -- cal fire responded. with the 4thof july holiday coming up and people misusing fireworks we are concerned about fire around here. and spencer christian is sitting in for sandhya patel with the forecast. spencer? >> dan, well things are looking pretty calm here. mild, but no heat wave expected. there are no disturbances in our weather picture. but over in southeastern arizona you may recall yesterday that there was a severe dust storm there. and there was one there today as well. the storms as you can see that generated the winds have produced the storms and have diminished. things are calming downright now. back to the bay area under clear skies, and we have temperatures generally in the 50s near the bay and up in the north bay, but in the

inland east bay and inland south bay we have temperature readings in the 60s. these are the highlights. patchy coastal clouds developing overnight. they won't last long. mild to warm again tomorrow. slightly cooler before warming up next week. it shows a nice cooling sea breeze. it is rather light and getting cool along the coast with inland locations you notice are still quite mild. and we will start our forecast animation at 11:00 tonight. overnight we will see patches of coastal fog, but they will disappear quickly. by midday or midmorning we will see sunny skies and once again mild to warm conditions. it is much like today. overnight look for temperatures to be on the mild side. low temperatures generally low to mid50s for the bay area. but we will see a few locations on the coast dropping to the upper 40s and santa rosa a low of 49. and for tomorrow, sunny skies in the south bay. mild to warm. the highs ranging from the upper 70s to the low 80. 80 degrees at san jose.

on the peninsula look for highs of 74 at san mateo and redwood city and palo alto and mountain view. low to mid60s at pacifica and half moon bay. downtown san francisco is nicea3 and mild. high of 67. 62 in the sunset district. up in the north bay it it will be warm with highs ranging from the upper 70s to the low 80s. look for 78 in nava dough and petaluma. 80 in napa and santa rosa, 81 cal law calistoga and cloverdale. 72 in oakland, san leandro. 76 at fremont. *9 inland east bay will be a bit milder or warmer, perhaps 10 degrees warmer matter of fact. highs in the low to mid80s. 83 concord and livermore. 85 in antioch. near monterey bay, highs near the bay in the midto upper 70s. inland, low to mid80s. here is the accu-weather seven-day forecast. temperatures drop off a couple degrees on friday and saturday. low 80s inland and low 70s around the bay. and then we warm up on sunday and monday.
